Easter is a celebration that children look forward to, as there are many things they can try: Easter egg hunt, Easter baskets, and Easter chocolate.
To make this year’s Easter unforgettable, we’ve put together a list of Easter activities for toddlers that will surely put a big smile on their faces.

Easter Activities for Toddlers

Easter Hunt: develop motor skills

Hunts enable toddlers to move around, use their brains and learn new words.

What you need for this activity

  • White roll of paper
  • White card
  • Markers
  • Scissors
  • Paper duct tape

How to set up the activity

Roll out the paper, cut a large piece and flatten it. Draw on it easy Easter-themed items like bunnies, chicks, eggs, spring flowers and Easter baskets.
Tape the paper on a wall or another surface indoors or outside.
Cut the card into medium-sized rectangles and draw one of the pictures from the taped paper, one for each picture.
Put the cards in different rooms inside or outside. Place some of them in plain view and others in places more difficult to spot.
The hunt is ready to begin!

Encourage your toddlers to hunt for the cards, and as soon as they find one, help them match it against the picture on the big paper by taping it on top of it. When your toddler is relatively close to a card but doesn’t find it, play “hot or cold”: when he gets near, say “hot”; when not, say “cold”. This will engage the children and keep them interested in the game for longer.
The hunt and matching game makes toddlers feel successful, gain confidence in their skills, improve their concentration, their motor skills and helps them learn through repetition.

Easter coloured rice: explore new textures and materials

Sensory bins captivate toddlers like no other activity, helping them explore their senses as they play.
An Easter-colored rice sensory bin is a perfect choice for busy parents.

What you need for this activity

  • Rainbow dyed rice
  • Plates or baking
  • paper
  • Plastic Easter eggs
  • A medium-sized plastic container (margarine or ice cream container works well)
  • Plastic measuring cups and jars, spoons
  • Empty egg cartons

How to set up the activity

The first step of this activity is to dye the rice, which will increase the toddlers’ interest and fun.

How to dye rice
With one cup of rice, an empty margarine or ice cream container with a lid, a toothpick, 1/2 tsp of vinegar and icing gel or several drops of liquid food colouring, your dyed rice will be ready in no time.

Pour the rice into the container, add a few lumps of icing gel colour or drops of liquid food colouring and mix them with a toothpick. Add the vinegar, put the lid and shake thoroughly to ensure the rice is dyed evenly. Repeat the process several times to get the quantity you need to fill your plastic bin. Place the coloured rice on several plates or sheets of baking paper. Put the rice in a sunny spot until dry.

Place the rice in rainbow order into the storage bin for children to play. Add a few plastic Easter eggs. Give the little ones plastic measuring cups, jars, spoons and empty egg cartons. Watch them as they grab and scoop the rice inside the bin or try to get it in the measuring cups or fill jars with their measuring tools.

This activity will keep 2.5 years old toddlers interested for up to 45 minutes per session, enabling them to experience the texture of rice and improve their fine motor skills.

Easter tape-eggs craft: practice simple and fun art

Arts and crafts are among the best Easter activities for toddlers, teaching children art techniques and helping them explore new materials.

What you need for this activity

  • Heavy duty card
  • Various types and colours of tape
  • Scissors

How to set up the activity

Cut the card into egg shapes. This activity is an opportunity to introduce toddlers to cutting: provide them with paper scissors, show them how to cut long bits of tape and watch them acquire this new skill through repetition. If your child is too young to use the scissors, do the cutting yourself and place the pieces close to your child.
Show your toddler how to put the tape wherever they want on the egg-shaped card and then wrap the bits to the back of the card shapes to give them flat edges.
These lovely egg crafts will make a beautiful decoration for this year’s Easter and will enable your toddler to develop a sense of self-confidence in their skills.

Easter eggs mini-volcanoes: learn science in a fun way

Easter eggs mini-volcanoes: learn science in a fun way
Science activities teach children to solve problems, make observations, and explore cause-and-effect connections, all in a fun way.

What you need for this activity

  • Plastic Easter eggs
  • Egg carton
  • Baking soda
  • Vinegar
  • 250 ml squirt water bottle
  • Food colouring
  • Storage bin or a plastic tub for play

How to set up the activity

Place the plastic Easter egg carton inside the storage bin or plastic tub. Put two-three drops of different food dyes in each plastic egg. Add a spoonful of baking soda to each egg to cover the food colouring.
Fill the squirt bottle with vinegar, give it to your toddler and instruct him to “shoot” the eggs with the vinegar.
The little one will have double fun: first from observing the “volcanoes” created when the vinegar comes into contact with the baking soda inside the eggs and then from the surprise of discovering a different colour of these volcanoes each time.
You can put this game on your Easter activities for toddlers list and play it every year.

Easter bunny colouring hunt activity: train the brain to focus

Colouring activities help kids improve fine motor skills and train their brains to focus. They are among toddlers’ favourite activities, and this bunny colour hunt will turn Easter into a more fun celebration.

What you need for this activity

  • White, heavy-duty card cut in the shape of bunnies
  • Small, easy-to-carry Easter basket
  • A copy of the version for toddlers of Peter Rabbit book by Beatrix Potter
  • Coloured crayons or markers

How to set up the activity

Start by cuddling up with your toddler and read Peter Rabbit by Beatrix Potter.
Hide the bunny shapes around the house and in the courtyard. Make the search easy for younger children by putting the bunnies in plain sight and more difficult for older toddlers by putting them in more complex locations.
Give the Easter basket to your toddler, and let the hunt begin.

After your child finds all the bunnies, watch her colour them in their favourite colour.
Once the colouring is over, you can play together by making the bunnies “hop” around and giving them names, hugs and kisses.
