Bright Beginnings Early Learning Centre Culture

Bright Beginnings Early Learning Centre believes in providing a creative and open-ended environment which encourages infinite learning for the children and strong relationships between teachers, children and families.

Our culture is based upon the Reggio Emilia key principles:

Children are capable and competent learners:

we encourage children to develop the tools required to investigate, make sense of objects and ideas about which they are curious, and to become promoters of culture, values and rights; and

we believe in giving children complete ownership of their learning and their experiences. The centre environment strongly reflects our inspiration – The Reggio Emilia philosophy, from Reggio Emilia, Italy

Teachers and parents, through their interactions with the children and each other, have a responsibility to help the child learn:

first and foremost, our teachers spend quality time talking and listening to the children;

parent participation is a key part of the children’s learning process; and

reciprocal communication between the children, parents and teachers is paramount to help create the spirit of cooperation, collaboration, and co-construction of knowledge.

The environment acts as a third teacher for our children:

our environment encourages collaboration, communication and exploration. Our spaces are filled with natural light, order and beauty. Each space has an identity and a purpose and is cared for and respected by the children and the adults. Our spaces are alive, flexible and open to change, to support our children in exploring deeper into their interests and investigations.

“The environment should act as an aquarium which reflects the ideas, ethics, attitudes and culture of the people who live in it. This is what we are working towards”. – Loris Malaguzzi

Our Early Learning Centre Culture

Respect is a keyword and it is emphasised in all aspects of the day, whether it is by routines, the educational programme or interactions between children and adults.

There is flexibility in the day’s routines; at the same time care is taken that each individual child’s needs are recognised and respected.

We believe in partnership, and as a team, we focus on extending this respect to children, families and team members.

We work towards planning for the children in a triadic manner, with teachers, parents and children being completely involved with centre life.

The day’s routines are flexible. At the same time, care is taken to recognise and respect each child’s needs.

Our Children

We believe that children are full of potential and are far more competent and capable of managing themselves and directing their own learning than we think.

They have the capacity for representing ideas in a wide variety of symbolic and realistic approaches. Furthermore, we trust in the importance of children’s symbolic language “The 100 Languages”.

Our Teachers

We wish to provide an atmosphere of harmony as we believe it is essential in facilitating positive, supportive, adult-child relationships. The role of our teachers is first and foremost to be that of a co-learner alongside the children.

Through working together we work towards a common purpose – the building of a culture which respects childhood as a time to explore, investigate, create, and be happy.

Our Parents

We strive to offer a home away from home, where there is mutual respect and trust, and where we see one another as family. We see many forms of parent participation and believe that they are an essential component of the children’s learning and the running of the programme.

We respect the partnership that we have with our parents and wish to continue to build on it through working together co-operatively and transparently.

Our Environment

We trust that every child should be encouraged to grow and learn in a natural environment that facilitates a positive contribution to society.
