Sweet Treasured Moments During Difficult Times
On 12th August 2020, we experienced the anticipated ‘second wave’ of the pandemic Covid-19. This time, we must admit that it felt more familiar as we went through it a few months prior.
This had its advantages as well as its inconveniences, in the sense that policies and procedures were in place to guide us through this difficult moment, something we never have thought to implement before. As Ben Saunders says “Growth only comes from adversity and from challenge- from stepping out into the unknown” and this is exactly what Covid-19 has brought to us; a growth mindset and a stronger sense of togetherness. Whānau, Kaiako and tamariki demonstrated great resilience before, during and after the lock down, proving once again that “we are in this together”.
We prepared ourselves to get back to the workplace on Sunday 30th August, under Level 2.5 this time, meaning that some restrictions were still in place and that precautions were highly recommended. Kaiako and management spared no effort in making our tamariki’s return to the Centre as festive as possible.
Numerous events and celebrations such as Fathers Day, Tongan week, Te wiki o te Reo Māori among others, were carefully devised through brainstorms, discussions, research and action plans to guide our kaiako, whānau and tamariki to engage in meaningful interactions, emphasizing on our umbrella concept ‘Relationships’ and our Strategic Plan 2020 ‘Cultural kaupapa’. Through these events, we are exploring and strengthening our understanding of cultural diversity within the centre, recognizing and respecting ways of being, belonging and becoming.
Glimpses of the learning experiences are available on our website and Facebook page for your reference.
