Children’s Learning and Events:
Currently, the children at the Bright Beginnings Early Learning Centre, Panmure, are exploring the Umbrella Concept of ‘Respect’. This concept was chosen due to the educator’s belief that teaching the value of respect to our children would help them grow into our futures responsible citizens. Together as a team, the whanau, parents, children and educators are using the Group Inquiry approach to understand where the concept of ‘Respect’ is leading them. The parents have given their valuable feedback on the concept of respect and their family’s way of perceiving it. This has given the educators a great insight into what families’ hopes and aspirations are for their children when it comes to showing respect in their communities. The educators are facilitating social learning among the Akonga with resources and open ended settings to encourage children to lead their quest of becoming competent and capable learners.
The children have been introduced to a variety of enjoyable experiences recently such as the visit to the library, fire truck visit, park visit and the Waitangi day celebrations.
Manuka room: The educators are noticing a growing interest amongst the young learners towards exploring Diversity through respectful means and noticing each others’ uniqueness.
Kowhai room: Based on the dialogue between the parents, children and teachers in the Kowhai room , we are currently observing the children’s interest in respectful care and the direction it is leading them towards.
Pohutukawa room: We are persistently provoking children’s thinking and evolving our environment to develop the children interests on the concept of ‘Respect’ and also providing new and exciting experience for them through local library visit, fire truck visit to the centre. These learning experiences sparked our children’s interest to think towards Respecting the Community. We are looking forward to see how tamariki lead their learning journey with the support of peers, kaikao and whanau within the environment.
We will continue strengthening the close ties with whanau through their active involvement in our project inquiry approach for furthering our children’s group interest.
